I was the victim of identity theft, thanks to a sibling gaining access to my checkbook and wallet. My sibling was able to defraud more than $3,000 from my checking account, and when I asked them what I could do to get the money back I kept getting the run around.

First, someone in the fraud department said once I sign an affidavit and submit a police report, they would start an investigation to help get my money back. Then just two days later some rude lady in the fraud department called me and said that because it's a family member, it's considered a domestic dispute, they can't get involved and I would have to press charges. After closing the account, I then get a Lifelock (I highly recommend them if you don't already have them) alert just a few days later stating that someone used my information to open not one but 2 accounts at USAA in my name. I called USAA and asked them what was going on.

I was then informed that these two accounts were overdrawn by thousands of dollars. My reply was, well I didn't open them, didn't even know they existed, I'd like them closed right away. They replied, well we can't close the accounts until the negative balances are resolved. Ok so how do I do that? You have to file a police report and send it to us.

Are you *** kidding me? Not to mention the very same day I get a new debit card in the mail for an account I didn't even open. They are definitely not the sharpest tools in the shed at USAA. Why would I close my account and then open two new ones just a few days later?

Unbelievable! Yet it's my fault because a thief who happened to be a sibling got access to my info, yet I'm going through all of this trouble to try to get my money back. Does that even make sense? Not to mention their customer service is sh**ty.

Each time I called I was transferred to 80 million different departments, even got hung up on many times in the process. Those commercials they have are just a crock of *** Don't believe the hype. USAA does not care about Veterans at all.

Good riddance! I am now a member of a credit union that actually takes care of its members, rates are better too.

they blame whoever owns the account they don't even really do a investigation at all. 2 customer service people stated to me that it doesn't matter if you even send a police report.

Somehow it is USAA's fault that your sibling is a criminal and should be locked away???
