USAA - RV full coverage (yeah right)

Claim denied before I ever spoke with an adjuster. Letter issued saying I had not been able to be contacted the same day I made the claim. I never missed a phone call. This company is dishonest. They are rude, and have no intentions of helping you. Way to support your military. After I confronted them on this issue, I spoke by phone with an adjuster and then one came out to view the property. Later, I found out that I had been misrepresented by the company who said I did not make necessary repairs in a timely manner. (before I knew about the damage.) I guess this company expects you to tell the future. Repairs made within hours of the find is not timely You should know your roof will leak the next time it hails and rains. The giant circles of cracked fiberglass indicating hail are a moot point. The "State of Emergency" Oklahoma was declared to be in during said storm are too apparently.

USAA - Worst Insurance Care in the World

I had a fire and my apartment was totaled. I live in a luxury building. USAA as no 24x7 service. The building was so horrified they put their cleaning crew to work. USAA says they have to think about if they want to cover it. I have been passed to four "customer care reps" over the past 6 weeks. No one knows what is going on. The adjuster that came to inspect the damage was not able to upload the claim because USAA's system is screwed up. I got a note in the mail - with typos - that the adjuster failed to submit the claim. Now USAA says I am not allowed to talk to anyone but them. They lie, don't call back, and are just ***. Go with Chubb - or someone else. I have insurance that covers me to stay in a hotel under "unlivable" conditions. They refuse to honor this for when I get my place re-gutted, said I should have use the lodging allowance at the time of the damage. I stayed so I could ensure no one would steal/damage my household items (precious heirlooms). USAA I hate them!

USAA Delays insurance claim for three months and counting.

In december of 2012, my son had his dodge charger in a body shop for minor damage to the rear bumper. While in the shop, the car caught fire and was destroyed. After being investigated by the county fire marshal's investigator, and an insurance investigator, USAA said they would honor the claim. Now, they have delayed by repeatedly transferring the case to various investigators for the same reason. Even after a complaint to the NC State Insurance Commissioner, they continue to delay. They are now demanding that my son provide them with his phone records for the period of 3 days prior to and 3 days after the incident. The arson investigator has already determined that it was an accident and no criminal charges are necessary, who the *** does USAA think they are.

Don't they need a court order for phone records? Today's the 5th after the July 4th holiday and work is soooo slow.

I find it very amusing catching up on my USAA Soap Opera on PissedConsumer.com. Only 303 more to read.

USAA is unethical

What a shame that good company has gone bad. The claims rep and her manager are lying to me about why they declined my homeowners claim regarding a leak in my garage. They are saying that it is due to faulty repair, but their adjuster stood in my garage and said they would cover the damage inside the garage - and that they would open a supplemental claim once we figured out the cause of the leak. So, is it logical that the office rep can state "faulty repair or workmanship" is why they are declining? No, it is a lie because no one knows the reason for the leak...not me, not their claims rep, not their adjuster. To make it worse, the claims rep told me on the phone that I had told her previously this was faulty repair. That's a lie too. What I told her in all candor and in the interest of complete honesty and transparency is that I paid alot of money 15 years ago to put a full rubber membrane above the garage (under a rooftop deck) to prevent a leak discovered back then. But I also said that this leak is in a different place and is new because the wood is wet but not rotten at all. There has been no evidence of any leak for 15 years. So she is totally misrepresenting what I said in order to decline the claim. If an adjuster comes to your house, does an analysis, and tells you that you are covered...is it legal for the rep back in the home office to decline the claim? I'm going to call my lawyer and the Division of Insurance to find out. I see 223 complaints on here about USAA. What a shame! They must be much much worse than I ever dreamed. Most people wouldn't even post on this site or know that this site exists. I will do my best to spread the word and encourage you to do the same.

I went through this nightmare just two years ago, they lie and my state insurance department said, file a complaint, and all I wanted was to get better, and have my bills and car paid for and they so tried for months to under cut me, an NO one calls you back just like on their CC Service too. I had a car accident; that was not my fault, and it was just a exhausting overwhelming drain.

Now I am fighting a dispute for a purchase that was installed incorrectly in my home and it was the wrong unit, the merchant lied and violated building codes.

USAA will lose some day big, when they look around and see that the billions they have start dwindling as more and more leave...I am telling every military friend and relative I know; we have two generals, Lt., Col,in my immediate family, and I went to a military college. I am going to post everywhere and warn all that I know. I will be closing out my accounts and both insurances accounts. I also had two identity theft attempts on my card account too.

Let all you know about this...they have terrible customer service, and if their is a way to start a class action I will do it. There are lawyer bullentins I can post on too.

USAA Customer Service is horrible

Filing a claim against USAA auto insurance requires lots of patience. Like weeks of patience. It took about 3 weeks for them to even look at my car. After that they fought about paying for a rental. After having the rental for some time I got a call when I was out of town and USAA said they had paid enough on the rental and there were going to stop paying for it. Of course I had to spend the next hour on the phone going in circles talking to several people to try and get them to pay for the rental. Just a bunch of jerks. I know my insurance company has way better service. Stay away!

USAA - WORST CLAIMS PROCESSING EVER!!!!!

Invovled in vehicle accident, was not at fault. The other driver was USAA insured. I have never had an adjuster, have been speaking to the at fault partys adjuster. When I filed the claim, they put a wrong phone number in for me and 3 weeks later they are still using the wrong phone number. They told me I had documents pending in my USAA account, they did not even know that their website was screwed up until I told them documents could not be accessed. I was overinsured for over a year, when they did an annual review of my policy they asked why I had full coverage when all my cars were paid for, wow! This company has some serious issues, the good news is my car was fixed by an amazing repair shop that I found, refused to use anything associated with USAA after this claim.

USAA left us stranded with no vehicle rude

Was sent on a Monday morning at 7:30 to have an estimate done on vehicle there insured hit us. We were told the car should not be driven. The body shop sent us to get a rental vehicle. The rental place would not give us one since they had not been contacted by insurance company. The USAA had sent in the assignment to the body shop as a liability claim and then said it was only an estimate they had not admitted liability yet. The USAA left us stranded at the rental car place, was very rude and ugly on the phone and then told us to rent our own vehicle. I am so glad I never choose this company for insurance, I just want the car fixed and be treated like another human being.

USAA - Declined claim even though policy holder at fault

USAA is horrible!!!! In December I was hit by one of their policy holders who was cited for speeding by police as per witness statement. USAA has decided that they were not at fault and that they will now pursue a lawsuit against me to recover damages to their policy holders vehicle. They have called me and yelled at me many many times. I even had an employee tell me to be quite because he was the one talking not me. USAA has horrible business practices and they don't care that the person on the other end of the line is human and should be treated like one. They want me to cooperate and I have told them numerous times to speak to my lawyer but they refuse.

So, you filed a claim under your home insurance . Why didn't you have the collection insured?

I would call that being penny wise and dollar ***. Funny thing about collections like that, they are really only valuable to there owners. How well was your home defended ? Who knew of your collection?

What kind of hood do you live in? All factors in protecting what's yours and sorry , but sounds like you did little to protect your precious coins.

Don't blame the insurance Co. They insured what you told them to.

I was hit by a policy holder on April 20th 2012 in a parking lot. Although my car was 90% out of my parking space, and the USSA policy holders car was just starting to back out when we hit.

No damage was done to their car, but about $500.00 damage was done to mine.

I called USSA and gave them all the information the required, but as of today May 7th 2012 I have yet to hear from the claim adjuster. I did however call their claims department on May 1st and another claims adjuster told me that they ( USSA )have determined that no one was at fault.

Still waiting to hear from the claims who took all the information with a reason for their decision.

USAA - Pitiful contact system

I called to report a claim. I was very patience going through a laundry list of question was told my wait time was seven minutes. I waited seven minutes someone clicked on the line and then hung up on me. I called right back to go through the laundry list of questions again to be told that the office was closed. I then tried to go online since I have never made a claim in all the years with USAA I didn't know my login info. I tried every way to request such to get a dead end. I am very pissed!

insurance company, canceled my policy for late payment, extorted full payment for a years worth of insurance than inflate the rates. Now they sent a letter to my state DMV saying my insurance lapsed and the state wants my tags back for a three month suspension. The executive office is a joke this is the guy who pulls the short straw and has to tell you its your fault and NO they have no intention of correcting there mistake. At one time this was a good company in the last couple of years its taken a nose dive in the craper.Save yourself some major pain go elsewhere for insurance.

This makes no sense. My family has been members of USAA since 1963, and any time of day we've ever tried to call, someone is there.

I've had to call them in the wee hours of the night when we had trouble on the road.

I've called them on the weekends at odd hours for regular policy service. Something doesn't sound quite right about this complaint.

USAA - HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

I am a USAA client and have been for over Four years. I recently had a house fire and had to make a renters claim. It has been nearly two weeks since the fire and they adjuster is just starting on my policy, not due to lack of quick response on my end. My family is still currently living in a cheap hotel room provided by USAA and there is no settlement agreeement yet between my insurance company and my landlords company. I find this to be unacceptable considering my hotel stay ends friday and then my family has no where to go. Is there a supervisor over the insurance department I can speak with? This has caused undue stress on my family.

USAA Failure

We've been with USAA (military vet) for over 30 years. My parents were also USAA members for decades before I joined. USAA was the mutual company whom we trusted would understand and meet our needs. We have had past property claims over 3 decades and were treated with respect. USAA is not the company we once knew ... and has adopted a strategy of wearing down claimants so that they will accept less. Financial pressure is compelling them to cut claims payments ... and do everything possible to add members. They will be losing our business ... and that of my extended family. If you have a rogue claims adjuster, get to a boss first ... then if not resolved quickly, escalate to the state Insurance Commission or one of the USAA generals. If you're in TX, you're in luck. TX Insurance Commission does NOT like USAA and would love to hear your complaint. If they offer anything, ask for documentation. If they do not provide documentation, reply through usaa.com with a summary of the phone call to enter documentation into the file. USAA waited 11 months to respond to our property claim (after it was assigned a number). Eleven months ... in spite of our weekly phone calls and letters. At least, we've kept our case documented (sending messages through their website)... so if it gets escalated (which we may do) we will have all documentation. Restoration professionals sent by USAA are equally frustrated and baffled by USAA's delays, forgetfulness, and arbitrary challenges. Looking for a reliable insurer... and angry that my longtime insurer has gone rogue...

I have had USAA -homke, caras, and rentals for 55 years. My five kids have each had it for about 20-30 years and two ex wives have each had it for 29 years and 19 years.

Hundreds of my military friends have had it for many decades. Never had I heard of an unfair settlement. I have had many as have my family (nine among my extended family in past three years - all quickly and settled at more than fair amounts (one even cover vfor mokld remediation when not really covered by policy!

This complainer obviously does not know the terms of his policy. What is and is not covered is clearly stated.

I have to concur, not at all impressed with the ways of USAA. My car was hit by one of their insured, it was parked in a lot and this lady drove her SUV 1/3rd of the way up my car before finally stopping. I think she was "tweeting" or otherwise playing with her phone. She got out and admitted her culpability, but after I drove to get estimates she hid out and I had to contact USAA to deal with it. She hid from them for a month before finally concocting a ridiculous story where my parked car somehow hit her, and because it was "different" from the truth USAA claimed no liability.... 3 months after I first contacted them.

2 years later she finally admits her fraud and USAA offers to pay the damage with 2010 estimates, I finally said "OK." they sent me a check with a letter opposite what I was told on the phone, but I cashed it to get this behind me. 2 weeks later their check was returned and deducted from my financial institution.

After reading the stories above perhaps this is par for the course, but I guess I'm an eternal optimist and try seeing all these things as honest mistakes. But on advice above perhaps a report to my state's insurance commissioner would be a good thing for the community. I have heard that the "bad faith" restrictions were removed from insurance companies, maybe they should be restored as this Kafkaesque experience is worse than insurance fraud.

Yes, it sucks big time that USAA has gone over to the "dark side". And they are now contracting with a company named Marshall Swift Boeckh that sends home revaluation forms (designed by USAA) to USAA CIC homeowner policy holders. They send multiple dunning letters trying to get you to fill in and return the form (even if the information on it is precisely the same as what you have provided USAA each year) and then call you at all hours of the day and evening to get you to return the form or give them your info over the phone. It's just a pretext to either devalue your home (and save themselves big bucks in the event it must be repaired or replaced) or to up your insurance rates. I just phoned the contracting agency AND USAA back to tell them what I thought of this new, underhanded tactic which can only have been designed to enable them to somehow scadge a bigger profit from all of us "ex-military-service" middle class people who they want to squeeze for more profits to pay for their fancy (and false) TV ad campaign. Sorry boys . . . we're middle class Americans and, hadn't you heard, we've already been milked dry!

I've been with USAA since 1968 and, until the past 10 years, they were the best insurance company around. Their auto insurance is still good, although its customer service interface is slipping badly.

Unfortunately, their homeowner's insurance arm, which was also once a reliable agency, is now heavily into scamming by recommending low-balling, poor quality reconstruction companies like Cary Reconstruction Company out of Apex, NC, who nearly destroyed my home when they made shoddy, not to code repairs to major roof, ceiling beams, chimney, dry wall, and floor repairs to it following an ice storm in 2002. The ceiling "repairs" were so poorly done and potentially dangerous that we had to have a construction engineer come in to evaluate them. He ordered the subcontractors (mostly illegal aliens who were poorly trained, poorly paid and barely spoke English) to tear out the ceiling sheetrock so he could see why the decorative beam they were trying to nail over it was teeter-tottering on a low point. Turned out that a ceiling joist/beam had been pushed down approximately 2-3 inches by the top third of a mature pine tree AND a 150 pound concrete chimney cap that had fallen on the roof. Cary Reconstruction's carpentry sub, who'd made structural "repairs" to the roof and ceiling beams, hadn't bothered to jack up the beam and reattach it by joist hanger to the side wall support point. Instead he just planed off the bottom of the beam so it would be even with those beside it and be able to have sheetrock nailed flat across it ! Fortunately for me, he didn't plane off enough of that beam. As a result, it formed a low point, causing the sheetrockers to be unable to nail the decorative beam running perpendicular to it in place! When the ceiling panels were removed to reveal this not-to-code and dangerous "repair", we also found they'd crammed R-33 thick, wall insulation between the beams in the entire livingroom and diningroom cathedral ceiling, effectively shutting off the air that's required to circulate through our soffit vent / roof cap cooled ceiling/roof system. This is just one very major example of the shoddy work this reconstruction firm provided to me. I had so many problems with this company and its sub's that I had to take time off work to be at the house whenever they were there in order to stop them each time they did something else terribly wrong. I have a complete, photographic record of this travesty. And I'm not alone in this experience . . . one of my colleagues at work, and one of my neighbors, both of whom were also USAA members, experienced similar disasters with this company. We all contacted USAA and requested they cease recommending Cary Reconstruction to policy holders in our area, only to find several years later that they were still doing so! Of course they were . . . because that company low balls bids and uses cheap labor so they cost USAA less!

Thus I'm not at all surprised to find USAA making this latest, underhanded attempt to find a way to get its policy holders' houses either down-valued, so USAA doesn't have to pay as much to replace the properties if they're destroyed, or their rates raised so they must pay more money (which they don't have in their pockets to spare) to USAA, increasing the company's ill-gotten profits.

Shame on you, USAA . . . once you were an outstanding insurance company, now you're just as bad as all the other Big Banks and Insurance Mafiosa who have taken over our government and bled the American middle class dry while ruining the United States and Global economies!

Anonymous

It sucks that you have lost the trust and loyalty you've invested with USAA for so many years. Now you're having to look for a good repritable insurance company you can build your trust in.

The problem with USAA is that they really don't care about the people and their family. IT'S ALL ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS ALONE! I'm bitter because I felt as though they abandoned me and my daughter (kicked us to the curb) when I got divorced from my ex-husband who was in the Air Force. I had banking, and wanted to get car insurance with them.

I was told that in order to get it, I would have to put my then separated AF husband's name on the insurance. But the car was mine - and in my name alone. They refused, so I went to GEICO and have been happy with them for te past 8 years. I still have a credit card and savings account with them, but since I cannot get any other service through them, I'm going to take my money to another bank (Credit Union).

So you are right in taking your business to another insurance company who will appreciate having you and your family. Good luck!
