USAA - Don't mess up or any future interactions will be HORRIBLE

I was in a bad situation and someone I thought I could trust got into my car, stole my debit cards and put my account in the red. I called and reported it but they said it was my responsibility to bring my account positive and all they could do was send another debit card which took 2 weeks...wtf. I bit the bullet and with help from my family I brought the account positive. Flash forward to 6 months later. I got a new job and opened a new account with usaa and a new card. I deposited a $500 check from my job (a large, well known call center) and they placed a 2 week hold on it....wtf. They also turned my mobile banking. When I called, they said it was because of my past history with the bank and that the old account had stayed negative for too long AND because the amount I had deposited into the new account was too large...once again...Wtf?? I am now left with 0$ to feed my child, pay bills, or have gas for work or school. I'm facing being fired from my job because I can't make it in till the 21st and it's the 12th today. My husband is missing school because he doesn't have gas and we are falling behind on bills for the beginning of the month. Needless to say the customer service rep was served many eff bombs. Never. NEVER. Banking with them again.

USAA fails miserably on multiple fronts

I used to brag about USAA as my insurance provider. Now I actively campaign against them. I will try to keep this short. I applied for a mortgage and paid for an interest rate "lock". When the time came for closing, the interest rate for the loan went up 3/8 of a % point. When I asked USAA about it, they said that mortgage rates had gone up. I worked at Fannie Mae at the time, and I KNOW that they went down. Good-bye to USAA banking. I was hit by another car, and USAA did next-to-nothing to help with the claim. After weeks of trying to get hold of the right person at USAA, I contacted the other driver's insurance company. They said that the had a check for USAA, that they had told USAA about it 6 weeks ago, and that USAA would not even tell them where to send the check! After all of that USAA nearly doubled MY insurance rates - for 3 years. I asked why, and they said that insurance rates had gone up in northern VA. I asked others who insured with USAA, and they said that their rates had not gone up. After 3 years, my rates went back down again. I asked USAA why they went down, and they said that the accident of 3 years ago had been charged to me!! Good-bye to USAA auto insurance. I had a pipe burst in my house, flooding the kitchen and basement. USAA said that they were closed for the 3-day weekend, and to call them back on Tuesday. I fixed the pipe myself, and their clean-up crew came out on Tuesday to clean up and dry up. That was the last good thing that happened. USAA sent a check to me for $5000, made out to a contractor. The contractor told me to pay them up front. I said "no. The check indicates that I should give it to you when the work is done." The contractor never returned calls after that. I spent 4 weeks calling them and USAA - neither of whom returned my calls. So I did the work myself. I told USAA about it, and they re-issued the check to me..... for $2500. I asked why it was lower, and they said "because you are not a GC". I was livid. USAA screwed up by the numbers, obliged me to spend 60 hours repairing the work, and then rewarded themselves for such horrid service?!?!? I have stopped using them altogether, and actively campaign against them when/where I can.

Too many reports to be credible. Are you a disgruntled ex-employee?

This is over the top and thus must be false.

Get a life. No, I do not work for USAA and have no connection to them.

Pulltype, I can assure you that after 17yrs with USAA I cancelled my auto policy with them today and is moving my direct deposit, investments and all other insurance as soon as I can get it accomplished. I have spoken with a few friends that have been with them for more than 15yrs and a few have left within the past 6 months.

My complaint is below. I have only dealt with them as a customer never worked for them nor did they deny me approval for a loan.

USAA my insurance company for my vehicle canceled my policy two months ago by accident and as a result I ended up with a suspended license and no coverage. I discovered this by accident Thursday evening from a police officer friend of mine. I called USAA livid and they apologized and back dated my policy and gave me a letter explaining the mess up.

I spent almost 2 hrs at DMV 3 days after getting out the hospital to get this issue resolved. I did cancel my policy with USAA after 17yrs of having them once I found a policy 2 days later. In April I discovered that my daughter's car that I purchased and called USAA in Jan 2014

to add was not added because they failed to do the final processing. They are on a roll messing their customers over lately.

Do you know they sent a bill for the two months they didn't provide me coverage?

The explanation is they would have covered any accidents had it occurred so they are owed that amount. Am I crazy for thinking no way I am paying?

They backdated your policy. They are covering you for the time you believe you had no coverage.

They have verified with the letter that you would have been covered had you had a loss. This is what saved you from a continuation of a suspended license and high fines. You owe for the time you are being provided coverage. This is a simple concept.

I can't believe you want them to cover you and for free. Seriously?

USAA is a loan shark to veterans

Due to VA withholding my disability benefits I was unable to keep up with my USAA car loan and insurance. I informed USAA in first week of Dec when I will be able to start and catch up on payments. the next week the towed my car and locked my out of my online banking account limiting my access to mobile only. Fastforward to Jan, i had to move from San Marcos to San Antonio to stay with friends because I lost my apt. I called USAA about getting tools and equipment from my car only to get the run around but the Debt Collection Office. The (unknown female) wanted me to pay the full amount of what I own on my loan. No payments. I told that was not going to happen and that I can only do payment pays and she was reluctant to give me the information that I needed and in informed me that my car was sold. I called again the follow month, February, to talk about paying off my debt with USAA and to lift the access restrictions to my account. Again, unknown female, refused to except a payment pay, refused to lift any restrictions on my account and told me that the access I had on my mobile phone (app) had all the features of the website. She refused to listen to my reasons to why I need a payment option and told me "we all have problems" and stonewalled me from speaking to anyone else. In the months that passed I have not been about update my address with USAA over the phone nor use any of the feature site products. The normal customer service run into account code errors and are unable to help me. Sister site products like USAA secure card applications have to be mailed to me and go to the old address taking weeks to months to find me. And mail notices like the information that I could in fact get a payment plan to pay my debt didn't find me until 3 months after the face. The very month of February when I called. All of my information has been forward to debt collectors when we could of settled this in January. This debt has been post to my credit report and if I do pay the collectors USAA losses will show up on my tax returns causing me to pay the IRS the same lump sum difference all at once. This was a purposeful targeted act. No where on the mobile app did this information show up. Past debts like USAA car insurance (which I paid off in February) still shows up as unpaid. This is beyond wrong and its time USAA be held accountable for its actions.

USAA Mortgage

I am a first time home buyer I have been with USAA a little over 5 years the best service I had banking wise I couldn’t wait until I closed to leave a Review to prove that they were not so bad . I felt like I was apart of a family a team and customer service has always been superb in my opinion. So when looking for a lender I decided to go with USAA since I have everything with them . I read over the reviews for their mortgage and even talked with Lenders in my area that use USAA for their personal banking and insurance needs and all I heard were negative things. Despite what I heard I believed that you can't please everyone Right?? In the beginning of my loan everything was great, great communication with my loan processor, great all around as it starts to get close to my closing date (which is tomorrow) Certain things didn't add up to me it started off oh we need this one document then they receive the document then the next day it was another document and another. I have never worked in a underwriting or loan processor position but I feel like the documents they were asking for should have been asked in the beginning too much information is never a bad thing . So here I am already packed up my lease is up and is already scheduled to have the new family move in and now I have to figure out where my child and I will stay until this new “closing” date comes . I am very appalled at how they can continuously do this to people review after review I have read and the symptoms are the same when will this stop honestly .This whole ordeal has affected me so much I am not one who cries but I have cried and cried this last week even took a trip to the hospital because of the stress . Buying a new home is stressful I know that but I feel like I am dealing with a bank that doesn't know what they are doing when it comes to mortgages. Hindsight is definitely 20/20 . I hope that USAA will actually listen to the voices in these reviews and make a change

I went through that as an employee, and at CLOSING...USAA was asking for the SAME documents that had been faxed previously...they held my closing up because they couldn't FIND the file...are you kidding me???? Then they sold me off to GMAC (after MONTHS of propaganda on the floor about how they wouldn't DO that anymore-it was gonna stay in house, serviced in house too many problems with PHH, never again..blah, blah.

So I believed them and got the loan, and then they sold it...I couldn't believe it) Now I am with the green tree llc servicing which is the WORST.

I will NEVER, EVER, EVER use the mtg loan dept again, because it is plagued with incompetence. But then USAA is much different these days...oh, right they are worse than they use to be.

USAA - Worst customer service in history!

USAA neglected repeatedly to put my auto insurance on auto-draft thus leading to them saying my payment was never received. Then they say they want payment in full for my 6 month policy. So I drop them like a bad habit and move on to a company that actually cares about it's customers (Progressive) now USAA says I am locked out of my accounts because they want money for the insurance policy. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. There screw up and now I can't use my online banking? I remember a time where USAA was the most customer friendly bank around now I would have to say they are the worst. Every person I know says the same thing about them. I have not talked to one person that actually likes them anymore.

I too am locked out of my bank account and cannot use deposit mobile because I am in the process of filing bankruptcy. I find it deplorable that we are punished with iur bank account when USAA doesn't like something we do that has NOTHING to do with our bank account.

I am considering talking to my attorney about filing a lawsuit regarding thi issue. Just doesn't seem right!

That is total BS. I'm getting fed up with USAA.

They were great until I filed bankruptcy, then all I could get was the mobile version of the website. Now they changed their policy and I can't even deposit a check through mobile. WTF? They think I'm going to try to deposit a bogus check or something.

As for your situation they really have you by the balls.

I've had the same issues with deposits, and he same BS about not being able to lift holds. Not sure what benefit they get from holding funds, but it is financially damaging and seems totally random and anti-customer behaviour.

USAA - The bank held money that I desparately needed

I deposited a check for $4000 dollars that I desparately needed and they held a portion of the funds. They wouldn't stop processing the check or lift the hold for five days. I even tried talking to their "Executive Resolutions Team" which turned out to be another person that just wasn't willing to help me. Had I known that they would have held my money, I would never have depsoited it with them. I'll just tell everyone that ever asks about military banking to never go through USAA. Congratulations USAA. I talk to a lot of people every year. Tootles.

Its common to hold checks. Just because you have the "I Want it now" Mentality, doesn't mean its right.

Show some patience and don't put yourself into deliberate financial trouble. :roll

Many decades ago I used USAA while in the military. However, customer service got so bad that I finally went elsewhere.

They are no longer the first choice of knowing military personnel. Just don't go with Bank Of America. JP Morgan Chase is good for military members.

That being said: holding checks is very common and perfectly reasonable.

The bank needs to verify that the check is good and the funds available before they give you the money. What happens if they give you $4K and it turns out the check bounces?

You would have the bank's money and they would have to take you and whomever to court to try and recoup their loss. You are wrong on this one.

USAA turned their backs USAA USAA USAA

Been a customer of USAA since 1979. They were great to work with here and abroad. I could not have been happier with my banking situation. Retirement (1995) was seamless and the great service continued till 2010 when I lost my job; no fault of my own, the economy claimed another causality. After being unemployed for 3-4 months I called USAA to let them know and to find out if they could help. OMG you would have though I robbed their bank. USAA not only did not help but re-affirmed they expected full payment on everything every month - no exceptions. I have been able to continue payments on my house, car and insurance for both. But I could not handle the AMX payment and asked for help; more than once. No sir, we can not help you...'make your payments'. Asked for advice how to do this with out a job; can not remember the answer but I remember feeling alone and betrayed. Between Feb 2010 and as of last week I have tried to work something out with USAA, but NO HELP, just advise. A customer in good standing since 1979, never late on a payment of any kind, in a bind and USAA turned their back on me. The reason I have stayed with them this long is because I can remember when customer service was great. They now treat me poorly, transferred phone calls between USAA employees each giving me the run around. I have asked for their help more than once but not once have they made any effort to help other that to advise me to make my payments. Oh...did I mention my wife left me while I was in Iraq 2007 - 2009 (contractor in Taji) and I now pay her spousal support, i.e., part of my retirement. I tried to factor this into my situation but again advised to make my payments. ONE LAST TRY...I am going to their Colorado Springs office and meet face to face with them and try and sort this out. That is a one day drive to do something I could have done over the phone before I lost my job. If this does not work out and they continue with this 'we do not care you do not have a job, make your payments' attitude I will move on to another bank. I have done nothing to deserve this disrespect. I had a hard go of it for a year but now have a job again. This is another reason I have tried to reach-out to them so I can make the 'pot right' with them. No help and just in the past couple months they turned my AMX account to collections - remember I have stayed up with my house, car and insurance payment. Loyalty seems to be going one way - me to USAA...but not for much longer is they continue to disrespect me. USAA - this is a 2 minute warning. What are you going to do? Start walking your talk..... or I will walk away.

Since you are driving to the Springs can I assume you currently reside in Colorado? If that is true and if they have in fact placed your account into collections, check to see if they sent you a 30, 60, 90 day notice of your past due debt AND per Colorado law a registered letter stating your account is now in collections.

If you are in collections and did not receive that registered letter you can dispute the validity of debt with agencies who will remove the entry due to no proof.

This is not legal/financial advise and non payment on collections may result in loss of the ability to use the USAA.com website as well as receive credit from them again.

USAA - Prevented Fraud

I have been banking with USAA for several years. I have never had an issue with them and calling into their service line has always been a great experience. I always get a helpful representative who speaks english and is able to resolve my questions and transactions. Recently, USAA was able to identify a possible fraudulant transaction on my credit card statement and called me to verify. The representative was able to help me determine which charges were legitimate and which ones were not. From there, they were able to reverse the fraudulant transaction. I couldn't ask for more...

USAA's is not trustworthy

I've had people straight out lie to me, I've got different stories from talking to one department to the next, I've been hung up on, I've spent a total of about 6 hours on the phone trying to get my Credit Card and Bank Account corrected, I've had to verify accounts online twice. I do not understand how this company has any good reviews. After being with this bank for under a month it has become clear that they can not be trusted with my money. I am closing my account and cancelling the credit card I just got with them.

Agree with first commenter, this post doesn't make sense and jumps around terribly without cohesion. Also, since this person was in 20 years that would put them around 37 years old at least and this is the best they could come up with?

Poor grammar, spelling, flow' everything.

Also, it's *** to say that USAA took $1700 from your account over "thhe interest they lost on your car.". It's fine to be upset about a company, but please don't slander them without actual evidence of wrong doing, just what you "still think" happened.

This review makes no sense. You can't sell a car without clear title.

The lender does not take a loss on a car trade unless the borrower cheated them. Learn some basic grammar and then rewrite the review.

I had a similar experience. The information I provided over the phone was completely garbled by the time it was printed on the app.

I called to correct these gross errors and USAA said "Okay, I will change them if you really want". Two weeks later he called and was still using the old incorrect data. One week before the closing he says it will be "close" as to whether we get approved...long after telling us no sweat and ignoring three major income sources.

We were not sure of approval until the actual day of closing. What a nightmare.

USAA- The best!

Love USAA insurance and banking products! They are truly the best. I've been with them since 1993 and have never been so well treated and received such quality products and pricing from any other. Very pleased! (No, I don't work for them nor do I know anyone who does). Honestly and A+++ company who cares about their products, service, and clients. I appreciate their quality products, service, and pricing. And, like the fact that if I need to speak to one of their representatives, I can actually understand them! Thank you USAA. I gladly recommend you! You have proven you are the Best!

I've had USAA since 1965 and I couldn't be more pleased--they were there for me when a moving company wrecked all of our belongings and were there for a couple of other claims for home and auto. Even when my credit card number was stolen last year--they promptly handled everything. I think they are absolutely the best company.
