After 40 years with USAA I am finding a new carrier

I have full coverage auto insurance with "0" deductible and have had since 1971. On 09/08/2011 I had my car stolen while on a business trip (520 miles from home). Naturally I reported it to USAA that day. I have never been exposed to such incompetency by a group of "Professionals" before in my life! I was passed around from one claims rep. to another for 4 days before one was found that seemed to know what he was doing and could answer the simplest questions. During that time I repeatedly asked for a supervisor and was refused. When a supervisor "Crystal" called me back she said to me, "feel free to find another insurance company". She later (on 9/21/2011) [after the vehicle was recovered and deemed "totaled" that I had to release my car to her before the vehicle was even appraised and a price settled on "or else pay the charges myself for any storage." So far I have no vehicle to drive, USAA has not paid a dime and the adjusters attitude seems to care less. Meanwhile, I am still waiting! What has happened to USAA ? Who is in charge ? Where has friendly service gone? Is it time to find a new Insurer? What do you think ? James A. Waddill, Capt. U.S. Army, Retired

Anne that is false, USAA is nothing like a broker and they have their own insurance companies but some service go through other carries but 95-97% are all done in house. Auto, Home, Banking, Life, and Investments. You may want to research or ask an actual employee before you say things that are not true.

What people do not realize is that USAA does not sell its OWN insurance products but is acting like a broker in selling OTHER companies' product lines. For example my mother bullied my father into purchasing Long Term Care insurance (she was convinced he would develop Alzheimers') & he was sold on a product described in the USAA magazine.

I looked @ it & discovered it was an excellent product but one available through a company I represented & which I could also service.

The price was no different, the benefits were the same but he didn't have to call USAA for answers or for help w/ problems. Oh, and please don't call for insurance quotes because I am no longer licensed

D/L 5/15/17 LOC: PUNTA, GORDA,FL Mishandling of this accident caused much anguish and frustration. The claim was paid before all facts were in.

I am USSAs insured atthe time and my cout date was 8/24/17.

no one helped me at time of accident or with this ridiculous subrogation not to be hwld until all info was available. My experience with USSAis not good, Am fightingfor my rights...

USAA auto loan denied

We have been with USAA for 15 years with 5 prior USAA auto loans all paid in full, never late with automatic deduction from our bank account. We paid off our last loan in May 2011. My husband tried to prequalify for an auto loan today and it was declined because of 1 late payment on a non-USAA loan in the last 5 years. His credit score is good, income is fine but still a bog NO. This one late payment was due to the loan companies error and we have supporting documents to provide. So if your wanting to join USAA and think they are great to their members I would read all the problems members with long histories are having. They are not the same they used to be. I honestly think the customer service rep felt bad telling us the underwriters would not approve the loan as she could see our years of perfect payment history. She talked to them several times but said they were not going to do anything. It's odd because we have an approval from the dealer with another credit union for 3.89%. Needless to say we will be moving our auto insurance as well since we can get it for $1091 less a year for the same coverage.

Usaa sucks!!!!!! Military did not pay me I let them know, I was in the reserves on active duty overseas had not been paid in months, I missed one payment and some how Usaa called my aunt in the united states and asked them if she knew me then hung up on her.The caller id had Usaa all over it!!!!These people are disgusting, they talk to you like your a *** and do not stand behind vets.That's the only payment in 15 years I missed, and all my other acts are paid off never late, now they wont give me insurance ,only if its paid in fool. Dont trust these ***

I understand your frustration. I too have been a long time member and the same thing happen to me.

I disagree with the last post as a consumer with a great business relationship with their bank/credit union would hope that establishment would back thier financial needs based on their good credit and long standing history since that consumer also helps the bank by paying interest on the loans borrow.

The service from USAA had declined over the years and thier customer service is not the same. So many long time members are leaving USAA and there was a time no other company could beat any of thier services but that has all changed now.

USAA is a conservative company and like many other companies who want to continue writing loans they are always watching the "markets" Its a recession and your complaint holds no water. Your leaving a of over 15 years over a loan denial.

You realize the company you went to may do the same to you.

Over reacting and then complaining will get you nowhere in life. Just my 2 cents.

Just like any company usaa won't always beat someone else's rate. Thats why we get "quotes" from multiple companies.

But my home flooded and usaa had it completely taken care of in 2 wks.

sorry you had problems. Couldn't say what the issue was there but they've always worked out great for me and I recruit people to them regularly.

USAA doesn't help Deployers,

USAA customers service is terrible. I called and asked for a reduced rate on my auto insurance for my deployment period - They would not reduce my rate. If I had been removed from the insurace the rates would increase while I'm deployed and will have NO access to my car. Then on top of that news they made unauthorized changes to my policy which raises my rates anyway. ?? USAA folks are money hogs and will do anything to raise rates - the "we are for service members" is a scam. Can't wait to leave USAA for a company with better service.

I am a former bank manager and a soldier in the Army. I have been through three deployments with USAA and never experienced a problem. Your comments are deeply ambigious and seem defensive. I suspect that there is another reason b/c your comments do not add up.

Maybe you should try being honest with yourself first.

I have had USAA forever, never ever had a problem. They have always aided me on all four deployments, and have some of the best online banking I have ever seen.

USAA auto insurance is the worst

Somebody rear ended me on the freeway. The other driver freely admits it was his fault. My car was deemed a total loss. The other driver's insurance company (USAA) made an offer to settle, but the offer is so low that I can't replace the vehicle without an out of pocket expense of about $2.5K (same year, type, mileage, and equipment). The claim adjuster (Melinda somebody) at USAA will not even look at the comparison vehicles that are for sale that I found on Craig's list. The adjuster NEVER picks up the phone and rarely returns calls. Now I've been told that a check for the unaceptable amount is in the mail. They do not communicate, and now they will try to shove a lowball settlement down my throat. USAA doesn't negotiate, and they have sent me virtually nothing in writing. Now I'll most likely have to sue the fellow who ran into me. When I get a judgement against him it will show up on his credit report, and it will not be good for his credit score. The USAA commercials make the company sound so good, but they stink really bad. I'm a vet myself, and I'm really glad I never enaged with USAA.

USAA Tricks & Traps

USAA is using TRICKS & TRAPS to make people feel like they are getting a great deal. In fact, one should always get at least three quotes for mortgages, insurance (auto or life, etc.) I am a commander and every time I obtained other quotes I was able to easily bet their quotes. They are seeking to take advantage of military members, i.e. there user agreements. If you read them, you will see you give up all of your rights in the event of a dispute. USAA user agreement does not protect you only them! USAA makes it sound like it is for your benefit however BEWARE. Seek legal advice if you doubt whose interest these agreements are protecting. One other comment, when I inquired as to the salary of the CEO was making, I was told this information was not to be make public. Stock options, off balance sheet accounting, etc. Sounds like USAA has something to hide.

USAA - don't get hit by their insureds

A USAA insured plowed into my garage in the parking garage of my building. I got an estimate for a new bumper ($1,035.00). The USAA adjuster looked at my car, told me I didn't get a new part for the car, even though the car had never been in an an accident, told me the car repair place which gave me the estimate was dishonest and encouraged me not to go there (violation of the law), and gave me an estimate $400.00 less than the original estimate I got. Lesson to be learned here - USAA won't treat you fairly. Beware!!!

I cam home to theft in March of this year and contacted USAA. Its now almost September and they keep giving me the run around.

For the collectibles that were stolen I had a company affiliated with USAA called American collectibles. I am also getting the run around there. USAA has provided me with 6 Agents and I had to tell my story 6 different times. They are clueless.

Assurant has taken the collectibles claim and has also given me the runaround. Unreal what they let these insurance crooks do.

USAA LET MY KIDS GET INJURED BY ONE OF THEIR INSURED 2 1/2 years and still have not paid medical bills, or any other damages! Their guy got the ticket their was even an officer their and they have never EVEN MADE AN OFFER!!! i have been with usaa for 25 years. never had any issues.

if you keep you credit healthy you will never have any issues .

if you cannot make educated financial decisions then even organizations like usaa cannot keep you satisfied. so stop crying and fix your personal finance.
