I was a USAA member for 30 years and had every kind of insurance with them. I had a 3 year old truck stolen that USAA insured, my first large claim. Not only did they refuse to cover my loss but intimated that I conspired to have it stolen! Not true, no evidence just...

Strange, this has not been my experience. More to this story?? If your claim is correct, you can contact the State Insurance Commission for help.

Yes, get a better insurance company. USAA is not the best in either service or price.

You might want to get a quote from AAA. Once you join you can take advantage of their roadside assistance as part of your membership, etc. I can definitely state that in all the years my family have been with AAA, everything has been great. I would locate the nearest local AAA office and sit down with an agent who will ask you a bunch of questions to determine what discounts you qualify for, eg., education, employment, age, etc.

I like AAA because I have an assigned local agent whom I call when I need something. Great service and much better to have a local agent than some automaton at some call center.

I have had the worst experience with my auto claim with USAA. They have not paid for my rental car which was over $800.00 and they have only paid for 90% of my auto repairs. The body shop had to fight them to get them to pay that much. I am at this point out over $1800.

Twice I've been in auto accidents that weren't my fault and USAA has made the process harder than it had to be and more painful and time consuming. The only people they serve are themselves. .

Same issue with auto claim--1st accident in over 20 years (other driver's fault but he had no insurance) so USAA uninsured motorist coverage kicked-in.

My car was about 15 months old and had 11K miles on it.

Comps from USAA (generated by USAA's partner company, CCC) came in $1500-$2000 lower than anything I could find within 200 miles of my location, so I started calling dealers. All cars USAA listed were sold except one (that dealer said it was a "lemon-law" dealer buy-back car when I called, so it is NOT a valid comp or valid replacement for my car). USAA said they would remove the lemon car from their list (it was the lowest value of their 11 comps).

I sent USAA 7 comps I could locate near me (3 were out of the area but I could pay to ship them here). USAA only accepted one comp from my list.

For some reason, there was no change in their comp value even after these 2 updates.

Our values were still so far off, I tried to find out why. I looked up each of the USAA comp vehicles and paid for several Carfax reports. Turns out, the inspection dates for the 4 "inspected" comp vehicles USAA cited were incorrect. The inspection dates for these cars placed an inspector on the dealer's lot to inspect the comp car anywhere from 10 - 45 days after that vehicle was sold to a new buyer.

How can a car be inspected on a lot weeks after it left the lot because a new owner purchased it?

I submitted my findings to USAA for them to explain. After more than 5 months of waiting for them to explain the data integrity problems, then fix the issues and provide me with a response I received a small price adjustment, but nowhere near the difference between what they said was available and what I could actually find. To make matters worse, the new value they sent me was based on new comps they ran.

The new comp list had 3 vehicles, all at OUT OF STATE dealerships (remember, they disallowed 3 of my comps because they were out of the area). Also, the comps were now for a vehicle 4 months older than mine since 4 months had passed while we tried to work this out. For a 1 year old car, that's a lot of added age.

In the end, USAA refused to provide me a written response to explain their data integrity problems. They verbally gave me responses (ie - the dates on comps reflect dates the inspector was at the dealer lot to look at a vehicle, not necessarily my vehicle, so their system updates all vehicles at that dealership to the new date until it reaches some max cycle time limit).

They said executive management did NOT approve a written response to my written submission. Yes, my final comp and written inquiry went to their executive management for review. So a new comp was all I received in writing with: - no adjustment for the extra age of the new comps, - no physical inspection of the new vehicles to verify their condition (as required by State Dept of Insurance statutes), - no verification these were not flood cars from the Texas and Florida hurricanes that occurred in the meantime, - no explanation as to why out of state vehicles were valid now when my inputs were disapproved for that reason, - no adjustment for me to get to those vehicles to purchase them or ship them to my area, and - still no explanation to respond to the errors in the original comp data I cringe to think of the military families that get this response every day and are put in financial hardship after an accident because of USAA (the insurance company who caters to military families because they care so much). Not only does this show a lack of integrity by USAA, which is this a horrible way for any business to act, it shows a blatant disregard for those very people (the military families) USAA claims to help.

All for a corporate buck? The executive management at USAA, most of whom are retired military themselves and some of whom I worked for, should be as harsh on this concept as they ever were on issues they resolved when they were on active duty.

They know an independent appraisal would cost the insured member money out of pocket, which they likely can't afford, and $1500 isn't enough to lose half of it to arbitration costs, so squeezing it out of their insured members via very unscrupulous means is something they are willing to risk, because it is no risk. Again, no way to treat anyone, let alone military families.

Get copies of ALL the Police Reports, get off the phone and put this in writing. You need to write emails so you have a record of the contact.

Go over to Elliott.Org Christopher Elliott is a Consumer Advocate and they will assist.

They will advise you on how to handle this situation, the phone just doesn’t work. The Repo on the Credit Report is a mistake and can get remove.

But you need all those police reports to back your story up. No one will get them for you.

USAA - Very poor roadside assist

As part of my policy we have roadside assist. Problem is we called in at 730 am about our vehicle broke down on side of the rode. They contracted with a tow company for 815 am arrival time. After waiting to that time I received another message stating arrival time had changed to 1130 am and it was another tow company doing the tow. I called usaa and they were taking no furter action against the tow company for leaving us there for 5 hours. This is unsat, tow companies need be held accountable and if not terminate there services. Do not leave people stranded on the side of roads for unsafe periods of time.
