USAA in Billings, Montana - Collateral Damage to Travel Trailer

It has been nearly a month since I submitted my claim for damage to the underside of my travel trailer to USAA. Since that time I cannot get the process moving. No one at USAA wants to take responsibility for moving the claims process along. It seems that USAA has skimped in two areas: 1) They do not have theri own adjusters here in Montana and 2) I'm not sure where they have their own customer service agents, I wanted to discuss the issue with a centralized customer service responsible to corporate, but that benefit doesn't exist. I am totally frustrated and as soon as the claim is resolved, I plan on changing insurance companies to a more responsive company like AARP-Hartford who I left to join USAA.

This is standard practice. No insurance company owes any more than the actual cash value of the vehicle.

If the damages exceed the value or come within approximately 75% of the value, you'll only be entitled to the actual cash value.

Period.

It's referred to as a "total loss".

Insurance companies have a contract with their insured to defend and protect them. The law in every state protects them and allows them weeks and months to investigate and determine liability.

They will not accept liability until they have discussed with their insured and completed their full investigation.

Why haven't you involved your company that is contracted with you to protect and defend you? No matter the company, this is how it works.

If you don't have physical damage coverage on your truck, then you are out of luck. The only reason to carry liability only is if you don't care about the value of a vehicle.

Oh, but you do not understand. NO insurance company, NOT ONE, is going to handle your claim when another party is at fault.

I've been in the business over 25 years. When you are hit and have no injuries or fault in the accident, your insurance has zero ability to handle the claim because they are not providing the coverage the at-fault party's carrier is responsible for.

Now, if you'd like to turn in your damage to your company, they will be able to use the COLLISION coverage you are paying for under your policy to cover your damages. Of course, your deductible will apply.

Once YOU have contacted the at-fault party's carrier and turned in a claim to them (very simple procedure) and they possibly deny the claim, then your carrier can get involved depending on what coverage you're paying for under your insurance. Possibly, uninsured motorist coverage may apply.

If you're injured, your medical coverage could come into play. No injuries, your company will not be involved.

Every company will help you find a phone number and advise you of the steps (extremely simple steps), but your company has no liability in this situation. Every company is going to require you get copies if police reports, estimates, and do a lot of leg work. Every company is there to determine damage value and write a check. If you're trying to receive payment, the burden of proof and your cooperation will be required.

It's spelled out in every policy. If you decide to allow your company to pay out under your collision coverage, they will determine if it is worth the cost to subrogate and attempt to recoup their losses and your deductible. There are no guarantees this will happen and it can take years. You may not understand, but your company is saving you your deductible and a major headache and a potential blemish in your claim record by advising you to make the claim through the other carrier.

If you don't mind potentially losing your deductible and you carry collision coverage, turn the claim in to your company. You'll still be responsible for legwork.

They are not your personal secretary. They are a company you pay to provide payment for damage.

By far the most negative experience I have had with a company that states they pride themselves in taking care of our military families. I have been talked down to, not informed of anything, felt like a criminal, felt like I had committed a crime and was guilty until proven guilty. No respect that my vehicle was in a major hail storm. Had a half of dozen hail dents that had scratches inside the dent. Keep in mind that there is over 120 dents on the vehicle. Had to do a phone call that was recorder because it was stated that there is not enough damage. Then proved why, then it some how got moved a special investigator. She was pleasant but audio recorded everything and took a statement from my wife. Then advised that she would have to go look at other vehicles un the neighborhood. She even knocked on our neighbors door to talk to them How f $@&$!@# embarassing. Then today when I asked the adjustor is there was an update, got a condescending answer. I would normally chalk it up to they are busy after a major storm but the issue keeps coming one after another. Next I feel like I will either have to take the 5th or ask to speak to my attorney. That is how bad it feels. I pay them money...unbelievable!!!

USAA has to be the worst company I have ever had. My vehicle was damaged and at first things started off great. My adjuster/manager Majorie Poppen gave me a call as soon as I put the claim in, made me feel like they were gonna take care of me and he even gave me his extension incase I needed anything. I have now been trying to get a hold of this man for over 3 weeks. Leaving several voice messages with a callback number and not a single call from anyone. The amount of work I have had to put into this claim is not by any means worth keeping them as my insurance company. They told me they were gonna send an adjuster to go inspect the damages. I was told I would receive a call to let me know how much the damages were gonna cost. I waited and waited and a week went by and I never received a phone call. SO I CALLED THEM and they said they were waiting for me to send photos even tho I had clearly asked them to go do the work. So I wait again.. And still no call. SO I CALLED ONCE AGAIN and they STILL hadnt sent an adjuster out. During this process I was moving to a new home, so a damaged wheel was tossed out as I explained to the agent while arranging for an adjuster to come out. The adjuster was finally sent out and an estamate was made… WITHOUT MY MISSING WHEEL. I get a call from the body shop looking for the wheel so they can install it!!! They wanted the damaged wheel because USAA told them I had it! SO I CALL AGAIN. And they tell me that I have to call their third party snapsomthing company to tell them about the issue so they can proceed with my estamate.. Im wondering why USAA doesn’t call them.. I get a call from enterprise saying that USAA was no longer paying for my rental on a date that my vehicle hadnt even began to get work done on it. SO ONCE AGAIN I HAD TO CALL USAA to fix that issue. they asked where I would like the check to be sent out to. I told them to send it directly to the body shop. They sent it to me.. I CALL AGAIN because at this point im so angry that I have had to make so many phone calls back and forth to USAA and 3rd parties. And the woman tells me to hold and basically tells me that im not telling the truth because nothing im saying was put in notes. THAT’S WHY IM CALLING!! Because nothing I have asked has been done! So they tell me they will send the check out the following business day (4 days later). At this point I will only be allowed to have my vehicle 1 more day. Which is fine. I can live without a car for 2 or 3 days. Well.. Once again, I waited….. I have been walking to work for almost 2 weeks. So I call the body shop to see if they have received the check. They only received HALF. At what point did USAA think it was a good idea to only send partial amount?! SO... I CALL USAA AGAIN, almost 2 weeks after they were supposed to have paid the body shop, and im told they barely sent the check yesterday. So I asked to be put in a rental since at this point its USAAs fault my car hasn’t been paid. They tell me no, because my vehicle has been completed.. So im screwed? Because USAA couldn’t do their right from the beginning. Im paying USAA almost $400 for absolutely NOTHING

I take from your post that you file a lot of small claims. It is the obligation of all insurance companies to investigate and reject claims that might be questionable. USAA is outstanding -- one of the two best.
