Mortgage Application Nightmare - SO disappointed in USAA
Been member over 30 years. Applied for mortgage for a simple 80,000 townhome as we are downsizing.
Got very quick pre approval, great terms, great customer service. Once it was turned over to next person, went downhill in a couple of days. Condescending, asked for the same paperwork over and over again, would be snippy and short with me when I told her I had already emailed AND faxed her papers. Wanted info that seemed too personal and felt harassing.
Never led us to believe it could possibly be approved. 9 days before closing told us closing costs would be $3000 more than we were told and asked for proof of funds - which we couldn't provide - since they don't allow gifts or cash. Have missed work having to go home and send them so much info urgently at their convenience, blood pressure high, can't sleep at night. USAA insurance has been great, banking has been okay, but wish I had read the thousands of complaints about their incompetent mortgage process.
I will pursue with banking commissioner, completely unprofessional, unorganized, and incompetent. So disappointed in USAA's treatment of a long time customer.
Reason of review: Problems with payment.
Location: New Bern, North Carolina

Yup. File with CFPB.
If you feel they wanted "info that seemed too personal" and were scrounging up "gifts and cash" for your closing costs, your credit must be the pits! Its not easy getting a mortgage today, you have to PROVE your credit-worthiness, even for an $80,000 townhouse. This sounds like a personal problem, not anything USAA did wrong.
