I had a son that had insurance with USAA. My son passed away November 4, 2019 and the following week my wife contacted USAA to cancel his insurance.
The lady said they couldn't do that until they got a death certificate and only his estranged wife could complete the process or give my wife permission to complete the process which apparently to this day hasn't happened. My wife sent USAA a copy of my son''s death certificate requesting closure of his insurance and yet the policy remained open. Now we received a certified letter saying he owes over eight hundred dollars and USAA is canceling his insurance for non payment and notifying the DMV. If USAA would have been more reasonable and realized a death certificate sometimes takes more than 6 weeks to receive and would have put a hold on this insurance until things could be resolved.
You say you are all about taking care of veterans. I was a veteran of Vietnam and my son was a 20 year army vet who served his country as a nurse taking care of wounded soldiers and I don't think either of us have been treated with respect or dignity. Maybe USAA needs to rethink the way they handle the death of a veteran. My son had no money and his mother and I had to pay for his funeral.
There was no need to have insurance for him so we put insurance on the vehicle in our name and ask once again that his USAA insurance be canceled.
