USAA has become an expensive and greedy insurance company
Dropped me for using insurance
I have perfect credit and had never filed a claim as a result of personal fault. I have owned my home for 9 years and have rented it out for 4 years.
I filed two claims last year. USAA informed me they were dropping me from insurance as a result of my claims. The claims cost USAA a total of around $6,000. Between my premiums and deductibles for my home, I have paid them approximately $13,000 over the years.
When I was filing my second claim nobody told me that I would be dropped after it was complete. Not only are they dropping me, but we are having a difficult time finding another company to insure us because we have two recent claims.
They didn't even handle the claims well. They were very disinterested in helping along the way. We had to contact them to get everything going during each step.
They consistently left it up to us to get everything done and make sure the contractors were doing their jobs properly. They even closed out our second claim without my approval. The work was not done and neither we nor the contractor could get a response from them regarding finishing the work. USAA has really fallen over the years.
They are turning into another big bank that is only concerned with money instead of helping its customers. I will be moving all of my products from them in the near future.

Computer Insurance a scam
I added computer coverage insurance to my homeowner's policy. I had a small power surge in my home while using my computer, when I tried to power the computer back on the screen was white.
I filed a claim 11/2018. I was strongly encourage to take my computer to the nearest Apple store 1.5 hours from my home. Apple diagnosed a damaged logic board. I sent the repair estimate to USAA and they refused to cover the repair.
They cover theft, loss, drops and spills. So, I'm suffering because I did not lie and say the computer was dropped or because I made an effort to take care of the property that I insured. USAA continues to decline in coverage. I have been with them for over 20 years and I have watch them decline in customer service, coverage, etc.
I will be cancelling my computer coverage. Square Trade is always reliable for electronics.

Until they fix this "internal" policy, DO NOT BANK WITH USAA!
Due to illness and a run of bad luck, my three loans and one credit card with USAA went significantly past due. As soon as possible I started working extra jobs totaling 60-80 hours per week to make extra payments to catch back up. I was making daily payments totaling well above the minimums and the balances started coming down.
A few weeks later USAA exercised their "Right to Offset" (RTO) and emptied my checking account to pay the remaining past due balance. The money they took (over $2000) was meant to pay for my wife's Immigration Fees. Without this money my wife could face deportation.
YES, THEY STOLE MY WIFES IMMIGRATION FUND TO APPLY TO THE BALANCE OF A LOAN I WAS ALREADY REPAYING!
Fortunately when I called them, they were able to reverse the RTO and we were able to pay USCIS for my wife's immigration.
I thought this was resolved and continued payments. In the next month, I was able to bring one of the four accounts current, and reduce my total past due by over 25%.
Today, they offset my ex-wife's checking account. They refused to honor our divorce papers which make the debt my sole responsibility. She's moving in a week THEY TOOK HER RENT AND DOWN PAYMENT!
This time when I called in, they REFUSED to reverse the RTO, stating that the internal policy had changed.
USAA will knowingly drive people to deportation and homelessness, just to collect a past-due account a few week faster.

Devasted.
In late June a major power surge destroyed all of the major appliances in my apartment complex. I was without a stove, fridge, washing machine, dryer, and AIR CONDITIONER for over a month.
Consequently, I lost many belongings (smaller appliances, furniture, food, clothing, etc.) to rising damp, mold, water damage, and rust. My unit also eventually succumbed to vermin, namely, swarms of ants, spiders, and black moths. I soldiered on, confident that when the time came, USAA's reputation for fairness would see me right. In early August I submitted my renter's insurance claim, consisting of a 12 page report, complete with pictures detailing my ordeal.
Unfortunately, It's been summarily dismissed on the absurd grounds that "the source of the water damage cannot be proven". Words can't convey the agony of inadequate facilities during the hottest, most humid time of the year. Nor can they describe the life changing effects on my health and quality of life. What's ultimately most devastating however, is not being able to count on the help and understanding of a brand that so publicly vaunts a legacy of heroism and customer satisfaction in times of crisis.
I'm upset, and deeply saddened. I don't mourn merely for the things I've worked hard for, but also for the trust I've lost in what I believed to be one of the last decent companies in the nation.
If you're planning on insuring your property with USAA, DON'T. I for one will definitely be pursuing alternatives...just as soon as I heal from this ruinous situation.

USAA is awful - hopefully you can find a new insurance company who will treat you better.
