USAA review in Natchitoches, Louisiana: HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

I am a USAA client and have been for over Four years. I recently had a house fire and had to make a renters claim. It has been nearly two weeks since the fire and they adjuster is just starting on my policy, not due to lack of quick response on my end. My family is still currently living in a cheap hotel room provided by USAA and there is no settlement agreeement yet between my insurance company and my landlords company. I find this to be unacceptable considering my hotel stay ends friday and then my family has no where to go. Is there a supervisor over the insurance department I can speak with? This has caused undue stress on my family.

I recently had a fire and I have USAA. The whole process has been a nightmare.

The adjusters are rude and they fight you over every damaged item in the house.

I am switching all of my insurance and USAA products when the claim is completed. Good riddance to this company !!!

dear USSA since you have said it's because of location and forcasted claims of the area i am always getting increased insuarance rates. So since joplin in MO got hit and now with all the new damage in all the other states on this day 2 march 2012 .So i can expect the same ansewr very soon about you increaseing my insurance rate again. You are supposed to be a company for the military but apparently you just want to make up the money for your corparation. I am disgusted by your practices and methods of extorting money from us that have served i will be findind another company that does not want to make up thier corprate losses by makeing honest home owners pay more.

I thought it was member owned company and not a corporation ( open to public trading)?

Is this no longer correct?

USAA dishonest and deceitful

Thieves, liars, bureaucrats, and uncaring bean counters. A customer for 15 years we even financed our cars through the company. In January, a 17 year old pulled out into a 55mph road totaling my Cavalier. Police ticketed the young man. Open and shut, right? USAA, says that the car they gave me a loan on and insured for 3, yes 3 years had the wrong Vin # on paper at the office and thus would not pay for the car. Why my company would have to pay, I have no idea, but they sure won't share the info. Why isn't Geico (the 17year old's company) paying for the wreck. 2 months later I am still sore, yet I am an honest teacher who isn't looking to "fleece" an insurance company. Yet, it is my OWN insurer (USAA) who is sticking it to me. I know it sounds unbelievable....I don't believe it myself. What really gets us is that we really trusted this company, they were supposed to treat veterans fairly. DO NOT use this company! Tom Naramore Burgaw, NC

USAA review in Oldsmar, Florida: Waste of my time and money

Applied for a VA IRRL, conditionally approved. Welcome email said a processor would contact me in 5 business days. Well for 5 weeks they had a generic CSR, not even in the mortgage department, call every Friday to say that "they valued my business" and that eventually a processor would start working on my loan. 11 days until closing, still no assigned processor I called them myself. And then I learn they've been sitting on the appraisal for almost a month. They knew it was too low to do the loan without me bringing another 5K to the table. They got a non-refundable deposit out of me, but after 23 years of business (home/auto insurance and credit card) that's the last $ they get. I should have read the earlier bad reviews or at least the warning signs (like jacking up my insurance rates when I've never filed a claim.)

Never use USAA

A month into my insurance policy, I backed into another car and this created just under $1,000 in total damage (to both my and the other person's car). When I went to renew my policy, USAA increased by insurance by over $200 a year. When I did price comparisons with other insurance companies, they said that they would not even count that against me because it was only $1,000 in damage. So, I decided to cancel my policy with USAA and go with another insurance company. When I called USAA (just before my policy was about to end) they told me that I do not have to cancel my policy, to just basically let it run out. I then received a bill from USAA a few weeks later to pay for the policy. When I called them about this they said they will cancel the policy. Then about a month later, I received another bill from USAA saying I owe them $83. When I called they said it was because I did not cancel my policy (when they told me that was not necessary in the first place!!!). The representative said that I did not have to pay the money if I did not want to use USAA again. I told him "don't worry. I will NEVER use USAA again!!"

always write a letter to cancel your insur because if you don't the main office can send a letter to the state saying you don't have insur and the state will cancel your car tags--which can be fixed but will be a head ache--been there done that--all because the agent told me to just stop paying at the end of my policy--he just didn't report what he told me to the main office so they didn't know.

It is never a good idea to cause an accident within the first month of the policy. Be careful out there.

USAA review in San Antonio, Texas: Prevented Fraud

I have been banking with USAA for several years. I have never had an issue with them and calling into their service line has always been a great experience. I always get a helpful representative who speaks english and is able to resolve my questions and transactions. Recently, USAA was able to identify a possible fraudulant transaction on my credit card statement and called me to verify. The representative was able to help me determine which charges were legitimate and which ones were not. From there, they were able to reverse the fraudulant transaction. I couldn't ask for more...

I agree this was my most recent experience. I have never done business with a worst group of people.

I wrote to the CEO Stuart Parker and he does not seem to be any more concerned. I finally went to Veterans United and it was a great experience.

They were so bad about not receiving documents one day I went to Office Depot to fax the same documents 8 times and they were continually not getting the complete papers they requested. This was the day I finally had to give up before I had a nervous breakdown.

The Preferred contractor is forced to make concessions that will compromise the quality of the repairs performed to your property. All the insurance companies hide behind a third-party company.

One in particular used by USAA and serval others is called Crawford Contractor Connection (CCC). They provide the insurance companies with licensed and insured contractors. Then the insurance companies gives CCC a list of "guidelines" which will include ridiculous requirements like, "will only pay for 1 coat of paint," will only prime the square footage of the drywall patch, or they will require the square footage of the cabinets be removed from painting the walls, or drywall repairs, they require the removal of the cabinets for linoleum floors or carpet, they do not allow for labor line items, they do not allow for cleaning. they do not allow for demolition outside of the Xactimate line items, they do not allow for masking and additional protection - The list is long!!!

So, by the time the "Agreed Scope" - otherwise known as the estimate - is completed - CCC has managed to cut the cost of the repairs down substantially by cramming the insurance companies’ guidelines down the throats of their preferred contractors - under the threat of suspension or dismissal from their preferred vendor program. So naturally the contractors concede so as not to lose their preferred contractor status. The repair network has been effectively hijacked by CCC and they now control access to insurance companies repair networks for contractors. Then to top it off - CCC will charge the contractor 6% commission on the entire "agree scope " of repairs.

So now the contractor has to make that up somehow by cutting into the quality of the repairs to be performed to your property. Most Insurance companies require Xactimate price list on all line items with no deviation which is also detrimental to the homeowner because the price list is often obsolete and do not come close to what it will actually cost to do the repairs or reconstruction. Xactimate is the industry standard estimating program and area price list used by insurance companies. Unfortunately, they do not have the manpower or resources to update their price list to real world prices every day or market conditions on a daily basis, so the price list are years behind in true cost and pricing.

It is a joke and a system designed with ONE thing in mind and that is to save the insurance company money. Which is why the insurance companies use CCC and their preferred vendors. Xactimate price listing for the most part can work for cheap low end track homes, (not custom track homes) but even at its best you have to use the premium grade for everything in order to get close to the actual cost to replace or repair something. Some insurance companies will actual manipulate & change the way Sales Tax is applied and the homeowners will be completely unaware of this manipulation in the hidden perimeters of the software.

There are ways of manipulating the pricing, materials, Applied Profit and Overhead, and components list to the advantage of the insurance company that is impossible to detect unless you have your own version of the estimating program, input your ESX file, and know what to look for. A printed copy will not show the manipulated results or outline them for you. At the end of the day the contractor is not going to work for free and he is going to make up the lost commission payments to CCC and forced guidelines compliance requirements/reductions to the bottom line, by cutting corners, skipping procedures, buying cheap contractor grade products and material, instead of a good quality paint, etc...they have to make up the difference somewhere and 99% of the time it is by cheating the homeowner out of a quality repair. Or by putting fictitious line items that have nothing to do with the repairs at all to pad the estimate and make up for the insufficiencies elsewhere in the estimate cause by the "guideline requirements".

What people don’t know is they do not have to except XACTIMATE pricing. You can get your own sub-contractor estimates or general contractors estimate and fight back against the ridiculously low balled estimate they provide you. But keep in mind, time is on their side, especially if you have been displaced from your home. The insurance companies will stall your claim and try and drag these claims on for months and sometimes years hoping you will give up and just take the money and go away.

If you have a large loss then the best advice, I can give you is "HIRE A PUBLIC ADJUSTER" do not worry about their fees, they will get you double what the insurance company wants to pay. Or hire an attorney, but do it in the beginning of the claim before you say something to the adjusters that are recording everything and shoot yourself in the foot.

The system is rigged against the homeowner. I know,...I'm in the business Show less
