What a nightmare! USAA declined the loan the day before closing - They came in with several last minute requests for more and more info all the while saying the closing documents will be to escrow on time for closing.

No warning - Be sure to ask for a final loan commitment weeks before closing to avoid losing you dream! And do not plan to close your deal on time - no matter what they tell you upfront! I will never use them again and will steer anyone I know away!

Our military people deserve far more that USAA has to give. Beware!

We had a very aggravating experience getting a mortgage through USAA. After we first applied they said they would call us if they needed anymore paperwork.

We called to confirm that everything was OK a couple times and always got the same response: they will call us is they needed anything.....well they finally called, the Friday before closing...made us run around getting stuff and we had to delay the closing!

It was pretty clear that they had just really looked at our application a few days before the closing!! We were stuck with ASAA at that point, but definantely wished we gotten our mortgage somewhere else!

I am hearing things constantly about USAA letting their members down. We are members and I am a military wife.

I am also a loan officer.

If you need any consulting or help with a mortgage when USAA has let you down, i can help. www.theislandmortgage.com

The same thing just happened to my family! We were approved in June for a new construction home mortgage.

Well, obviously it takes more then 3 months to build a house so we had to reapply in Oct when we were supposed to close on our new house the first week of december. When we reapplied, we had less debt (just our cars), our credit scores where even up by 10-15 points and I received a raise at work! They approved us until 2 weeks before we were supposed to close and said that they needed a letter from my work regarding how many hours I could expect to get a week. When my job sent it to them they said the letter didn't match the pay stubs because my pay stub had more hours then what the letter says!

I work in the oil field and my weekly hours change every week, they sent a letter with my minimum hours! After that they said that they would still approve us but we since we missed our closing date we had to pay a "fee" to extend our lock on our interest!!! The fee was over $400! It took several days to get any calls back from our processor.

Our builder recommended another mortgage company so now we are going with them. When we asked Usaa to refund our $350 for the appraisal (that was never done after our builder called for it 4 times!) they said they couldn't. After fighting with them for about a week they agreed to mail it to me and I would get it in about 7-10 days. It has been 16 days since they "mailed it" so I called today and they said the refund hasn't even been proccessed yet!

We have 2 bank accounts, and an auto loan through USAA. When we pay off our auto loan in April we will be closing ALL accounts with USAA!

We have been members for almost 10 years now and its sad they treat military members like this! I will never use USAA again!

Same thing happen to me. Thought I was closing in Dec after they asked me for more paper work 2 months before that.

Closing dated kept changing and different person all the time. I have been with USAA for 11 years. All I wanted to do was refiance my mortgage I was at a 6.85 for 30 years wanted to do 15 years at 3.25. I have never been late.

They put me threw *** and guess what I received something in the mail not approved when I was told I was. They needed more paper work and I did not provide it. I was never told. They don't call you they email you.

What other paper work do they need.

I bank with them I have car insurance, house insurance, auto loan and mortgage. Sad but I would not advise anyone to use USAA for mortgage!!!

I feel for you. We prqualified a month ago and were told go find a house.

Found the dream house did all the paperwork, great. We even have a buyer for our old house. Today we were told we were turned down NOT because of any financial problems (that I would understand) but because WE DONT HAVE ANY TIES TO THE COMMNITY??? We are stunned that we were told we had to have family living in the Houston area to move there.

My husband will be working 3 hrs away and living part time elsewhere on rotating schedule. Now I have to live where they tell me to live or stay where I am which is 12 hrs away. They told us it was a VA rule.

USAA would not tell us where this rule is located or would not send us this in writing. Going to try elsewhere and see what happens.
